Welcome to the second installment of our "Understanding Performance Clothing" series. At Graphene-X, we are dedicated to educating our customers about the advanced materials and technologies that make our products stand out. In this chapter, we will explore the differences between synthetic fill and down insulation, helping you make informed decisions when choosing your next insulated jacket.
Down insulation is made from the fluffy undercoating of ducks and geese. It is highly regarded for its exceptional warmth-to-weight ratio. Here’s a closer look at its characteristics:
Fill Power:
Considerations:
At Graphene-X, we exclusively use synthetic fill for two primary reasons: ethical considerations and the belief that advanced materials can dramatically improve performance. Our synthetic fill integrates graphene, ensuring an extremely high performance in terms of the weight-to-warmth ratio. Here’s what you need to know:
Measurement:
Considerations:
Choosing between down and synthetic fill insulation depends on your specific needs and activities:
Down Insulation: Ideal for cold, dry conditions and activities where weight and packability are crucial, such as mountaineering, backpacking, and climbing. However, due to ethical concerns and traceability issues, Graphene-X does not use down insulation.
Synthetic Fill Insulation: Best for wet and humid conditions where moisture resistance is essential, such as skiing, snowboarding, and general outdoor use in unpredictable weather. Our Graphene-X synthetic insulated jackets, enhanced with graphene, offer reliable warmth and quick-drying properties for versatile performance.
We take pride in our advanced synthetic insulation technologies, integrating graphene for superior performance. Some of our highest-performing products include:
At Graphene-X, we are committed to sustainability and ethical sourcing. Our exclusive use of synthetic fill aligns with our values, ensuring no harm to animals and leveraging advanced materials for superior performance. Additionally, our synthetic insulation options contribute to environmental conservation by incorporating recycled materials.
Understanding the differences between synthetic fill and down insulation is key to choosing the right jacket for your needs. Down insulation excels in warmth, weight, and packability but comes with ethical and moisture sensitivity concerns. Synthetic fill, especially with graphene integration, offers durability, moisture resistance, and high performance in various conditions.
Stay tuned for more insights into performance clothing in our "Understanding Performance Clothing" series. At Graphene-X, we are dedicated to providing you with the best in advanced materials and technologies, ensuring you are well-equipped for every adventure.

GRAnaREC Mid-Layer Jacket II.
August 14, 2024
I’m sad to say that the GRAnaRec is the most likely candidate for the update. I’m sad because I LOVE my 3 GRAneRecs – two of which are less than a year old, and so I am unlikely to get the upgrade. (But then again, if anyone can make what I thought was already perfect better, I may want to see it for myself.)

I recently bought the Jack Vest. Nice jacket, not perfect… Ao, I guess (hope) this will have an improvements. The pockets are small and I dream in some mechanism more quick and easy to disarm the arms.

I guess you’ll upgrade the GRAnaREC jacket. I use it all winter inside my Alpha V2 and am very happy with it, but I’d love to win version two (I’d donate the current version to my brother ;) )
August 02, 2024
It has to be GRAnaREC jacket. You will probably use your new insulation material in the GRAnaREC jacket as well.
August 01, 2024
I think that you’ll be releasing the Everything Proof jacket Series II with some insulation, and new colors.
August 01, 2024
I think the GRAnaREC Midlayer . That jacket has amazing utility and can be combined to further increase warmth of previous editions or newer ones. Probably using the new puffer tech will make it thinner lighter and still offer similar warmth retention. maybe better pockets and zippers too?
August 01, 2024
Alpha Series jacket an update would make it even greater. Tougher to the environment.
August 01, 2024
I think the next project will be Everything Proof Jacket improve with the last advanced synthetic insulation technologies
July 31, 2024
My guess will be 2nd gen of GRAnaREC or Jackvest with better fill and with choice of colors.
July 31, 2024
My guess is that the almost perfect jacket, about to be perfect is the GRAnaREC Midlayer
If I can guess the improvements, I am thinking an improved zipper and maybe an improved hood. Plus other little invisible things I don’t know I need. Maybe even some sound reduction – I can’t do a walking voice recording wearing my GRAnaREC Midlayer.
July 31, 2024
GRAnaREC II for sure. Including the adaptive aerogel concept would make it perfect.
July 31, 2024
Sounds like we may be getting the Alpha II of three GRanaREC Midlayer. Makes sense to add your new Weather Adaptive Insulation to it for version 2, and maybe even a detachable hood.
July 31, 2024
The almost perfect complement to the Alpha II is the GRAnaREC – make the good even better and match it for Series II
<3
July 31, 2024
I’m voting the GRAnaREC Midlayer as well. The one I have is nice and works well but I can see how it could be improved.
July 31, 2024
GRAnaREC to fit my everything proof Alpha Series II Jacket! Hopefully with Aerogel.
July 31, 2024
I would venture a guess and say the https://www.graphene-x.com/products/granarec-mid-layer-jacket?variant=41873895981235. that way I can update my current one and give it to my son who has been eyeing it.
July 31, 2024
I’m betting on a new version of Granarec with aerogel tubes on back and chest
July 31, 2024
GRAnaREC Mid-layer 2.0! YES!
July 31, 2024
I think that your GRAnaREC product will move to version 2. I do like all of your products. They are best in class.
July 31, 2024
The GRAnaREC Midlayer is still at version one and considering the latest developments with aerogel, it would make sense to update this jacket with the new technology.
July 31, 2024
An even lighter, aero gel updated and more water resistant version of GRAnaREC? Damn, I shouldn’t have bought it a couple of weeks ago…
July 31, 2024
I think the Black version of the GRAnaREC is due for for a version 2 and I believe you have found a way to include the Aerogel tubes in this new version to make it even warmer… At least I’m hoping that this is the case… Either way, I’m ordering the GRAnaREC black when it becomes available.
July 31, 2024
I would say that the JackVest is more versatile (at least on paper) then the GRAnaREC… So I am going with the JackVest as an item well worthy of having a 2.0 version with upgrades such as the new Puffer line perhaps and even more pockets and adaptability?
July 31, 2024
I also think that it is time for an update of the GRAnaREC Midlayer.
I’m very excited!
July 31, 2024
I’d love to see a V2 of the Hoodie-X maybe this time I’ll get a size larger so the sleeves actually go all the way down! I didn’t see it mentioned here tho 🤷🏼♀️. So probably maybe the GranaREC V2…
July 31, 2024
Got to agree with all the folks here – GRANAREC MID-LAYER JACKET using that GRAPHENE-INTEGRATED SYNTHETIC FILL.
July 31, 2024
Gotta be GRAnaREC!
July 31, 2024
My bet would be the GRAnaREC Mid-Layer Jacket II. And as an addition to it’s already great design putting the weather adaptation of the AeroGraph Puffer Jacket would be an awesome step forward.
July 31, 2024
Granarec is due for an update.
July 31, 2024
Ok, so after reading this greatly informative and interesting article, my best guess is that, Graphene-X is going to make a V2 line of the JackVest for these following reasons, summer is only 2/3 complete.. so that will give an opportunity for Graphene-X to show it’s clientele and/or dichotomy I which ways synthetic insulation and especially the amazing versatility of graphene as a new potentially revolutionary substance can help keep one cooler in hot conditions as well as warm in cold conditions. Graphene-X doesn’t use organic down insulation, so anything that would incorporate potentially both down and graphene in one article of clothing like the big puffer jacket is out in my opinion. The third reason why it seems likely that Graphene-X will make a second improved version of the JackVest is because the JackVest can be layered still in these hot ending summer days and again can still keep one cooled down with graphene’s amazing properties, so one could hypothetically layer the JackVest with it’s removable sleeves over a t-shirt for both style and function (graphene 😎) killing two birds with one stone essentially. Thank you for this opportunity to win such an amazing and generous gift Graphene-X! Best regards. Thank you.
July 31, 2024
GRAnaREC version II with new colours would be awesome
July 31, 2024
GRAnaREC Midlayer with aerofill technology and new colors
July 31, 2024
GRAnaREC midlayer for sure! And I think you have added the snaps in order for it to be compatible with the everything proof jacket.
July 31, 2024
Thanks a lot for this new blog series, guys!
Really helps to clear a few things…
As for your new product, I’m guessing it’ll be a second version of the GRAnaREC.
Probably there’ll be several new features like hopefully advanced waterproofness, weather adaptive insulation and integrated cuffs with thumbholes on the arms.
July 31, 2024
Jack vest V2!
Aero gel, more pockets.
July 31, 2024
I think the puffer technology is coming to the JackVest
July 31, 2024
I would belive it is version 2 of the granarec rjat’s coming up. Exilted to se what improvements have been made.
July 31, 2024
Intergration of puffer technology onto the jacket. Hence, it can handle extreme cold and searing hot . It will be a good all rounder .
July 31, 2024
GRAnaREC! I love the midlayer, pretty much the only jacket I wear – hypedto see 2.0!
July 31, 2024
Granarec it is
July 31, 2024
Better be the GRAnaREC Midlayer II! I love my existing black one but if there’s reason to buy another… ;)
July 31, 2024
GRAnaREC has all the odds in favour!
July 31, 2024
Second version of the GRAnaREC
July 31, 2024
It has to be GRAnaREC.
July 31, 2024
It has to be GRAnaREC mid layer, it would work well with Alpha Jacke II
July 31, 2024
GRAnaREC has to be!
July 31, 2024
GRAnaREC…what else😎
July 31, 2024
Got to be the GRAnaREC, one of the best Graphene-X pieces I have (2 of them). Sounds like the Graphene integrated insulation may have been leveled up. And maybe some new colours??
July 31, 2024
I think the GRAnaREC Mid-Layer jacket with a version of the Weather Adaptive Insulation technology using Aerogel tubes/pockets. Designed in such a way that it takes a bit less volume at cold weather than the puffer jacket, as it’s more suitable to be combined with the Everything Proof jacket that way.
July 31, 2024
GRAnaREC … must be … can’t imagine anything else
July 31, 2024
My guess for an upgrade is GRAnaREC II with buffer technology
July 31, 2024
I go with JackVest, I think is the right candidate to get all the new updates and features. Thank you
July 31, 2024
A “GRAnaREC II” would go well with the “Alpha Series II”. Even though my Alpha already works excellently with the current GRAnaREC, the integrated buffer technology would take the combination of the two jackets to a whole new level. So my tip: GRAnaREC II with buffer technology
July 31, 2024
It has to be GRAnaREC mid layer, and this will complement very well with my Alpha II. Keep up the great job!
July 31, 2024
JackVest 2.0 if I had to guess, as first of all, this is my favorite design ;) and two because I think its lightweightness could remain (or even improve ?!) while enhancing its warmth to make it the most versatile and stylish of all jackets in the world. By using some Aerogel tubes from the AeroGraph Puffer jacket, it could achieve this endeavor.
July 31, 2024
The Jackvest is my fav and yet could be tipped to perfect with the addition of a zip off length at the bottom converting it from a Jacket to a long coat – Jackvest+
That would have me covered in more circumstances and provide a longer option to CMA (cover my a$$) in colder temperatures or use it for dressier occasions, e.g., over a sport or suit coat.
July 31, 2024
I think that you’ve got the second version of the GRAnaREC mid layer jacket right around the corner
If I had to guess, it now has some puffer technology, allowing it to adapt to changing temperatures
July 31, 2024
My guess is a new version of Alpha Jacket with new advancements in thermal control..
July 31, 2024
Version 2 of the GRAnaREC black? Would be so amazing, I’m absolutely crazy about this jacket!
July 31, 2024
My guess goes to GRAnaREC Midlayer and the improvement is the use of the puffer tech from the AeroGraph jacket.
